BlackBerry’s virtual SIM relies heavily on the technology of Movirtu, which it acquired in 2014. The technology lets users put up to 9 mobile numbers on a Single SIM cards and lets them manage the multiple numbers through separate billing for voice, data and messaging. According to BGR, switching between the multiple SIMs is also said to be a simple task. BlackBerry is currently in talks with Indian regulatory authorities for clearance to deploy this solution in the country. As said above, BlackBerry is reportedly working with the top telco’s like Airtel, Vodafone to conduct tests of the virtual SIM technology. BlackBerry said that the virtual SIM technology has already been implemented in parts of Africa and it will soon be reaching Europe as well as other Asia Pacific countries in the near future.
